Advanced Placement exams are standardized tests offered in over 30 subjects, from Calculus and Chemistry to Art History and Psychology. Students typically take the corresponding AP course during the school year and sit for the exam in May. Scores range from 1 to 5, with most colleges accepting scores of 3 or above for credit.

AP courses offer several benefits: they demonstrate academic rigor on college applications, potentially save thousands in college tuition by earning credit in advance, and allow students to skip introductory courses in college to explore more advanced or elective coursework.

Preparation strategies include taking practice exams under timed conditions, reviewing course materials systematically, using official AP review resources, and starting preparation well before the exam date. The College Board provides free practice questions and exam descriptions for each subject.
